Joseph M. Bernstein is a member of the Real Estate Practice Group in the Milwaukee office. In his practice, he provides clients with general counsel and strategic advice on a broad scope of real estate, corporate, creditor rights, litigation, tax and other business and investment matters. Joseph assists clients in developing strategies for estate and investment planning, wealth management, trust administration, and charitable giving. Joseph and/or entities which he controls has served as the managing member or partner of numerous partnerships and limited liability companies which have invested in multifamily rental, multifamily condominium, residential and commercial land development, single family and duplex residential, industrial, commercial and office building projects. These investments have covered a wide spectrum, including land development, apartment and condominium development, shopping center development and investment and management of apartments, office buildings, warehouses, shopping centers and land. Joseph has significant experience in the development and ownership of subsidized housing and commercial properties utilizing tax credits.
His many pro bono activities include serving as legal counsel and consultant to several civic, charitable, religious and health-care agencies. Joseph has served as President or Chairman of five community agencies. He currently serves as a board member of six agencies including the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, the Jewish Community Foundation, the Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin and the Blood Research Institute of which he is the immediate past Chairman.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, Joseph received his undergraduate education in economics at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
