Joseph O. Rubinelli, Jr. is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm's Chicago office. Joe has spent his entire legal career as a member of McDermott's Private Client Department, concentrating his practice on estate planning, family business and trust and estate administration matters.
Joe works extensively with families which control operating businesses, advising them on matters relating to effective tax planning for the business and family, management succession planning, governance issues, privacy protection and multi-generational issues arising in the management of the family business.
Joe counsels several large families on all aspects of wealth management, including effective family gift and estate planning, private philanthropy and risk management. Joe advises entrepreneurs, corporate executives and other business leaders and wealthy individuals on estate and tax planning matters. Joe also represents several charitable organizations, including both large private foundations and public, operating charities.
Joe has been a frequent lecturer on estate planning topics for business and professional groups. He is a member of the bars of Illinois, Florida and California.
Joe is a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, an international association of lawyers who have been recognized as outstanding practitioners in the fields of estate and trust planning and administration, related taxation, business succession and insurance planning, employee benefits and fiduciary litigation. He is a member of the Chicago Estate Planning Council. Several years ago, Joe chaired the Probate Practice Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. Joe is listed in the trusts and estates section of the current edition of The Best Lawyers in America.
Joe is a member of The Economic Club of Chicago. He is involved in several Chicago area charities, as a board member of Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Big Shoulders Fund and as a member of the planned giving committee of Northwestern Memorial Foundation.
