Dr. Shmulovich leads the engineering efforts at Inplane, including optical design, wafer processing, integration and packaging. Under his leadership the company steadily and consistently pushed the boundaries of integration on PLC, positioning Inplane Photonics as a recognized technology leader in the field today.
He is a world-recognized authority in waveguide amplifiers and PLC technology. Prior to founding Inplane he spent more than 20 years at Bell Laboratories, where he had both research and production responsibility. Bell Labs was one of the initiators and world leaders in PLC technology. Dr. Shmulovich was involved in the development of the technology from the outset. In manufacturing, Dr. Shmulovich had responsibility for a clean room processing facility and managed PLC based product development and manufacturing. In research Dr. Shmulovich pioneered Er-doped waveguide amplifiers and demonstrated a number of breakthrough elements, which have enabled their commercial implementation including low loss mode-transformers.
Dr. Shmulovich has a PhD in Physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is the author of more than 32 papers and 40 patents. He is a frequent invited speaker at: OFC, SPIE, AVFOP, IEEE, and other important conferences in the field. |
