Mr. Steinhauer specializes in land use and environmental law for commercial and residential development projects. He also has broad experience in a wide variety of real estate matters and has frequently represented owners and contractors in the negotiation of construction and design contracts and in construction defect disputes. Land Use - Mr. Steinhauer's practice includes all aspects of land use entitlements, including subdivision approvals, local planning and zoning regulations, and environmental compliance, including compliance with the environmental review process under CEQA. He has extensive experience with all aspects of large commercial and residential subdivisions and development, including projects such as Catellus Development Corporation's 300-acre Mission Bay project in San Francisco, the Redwood Shores project in Redwood City and Island Park project in Belmont. Other representative projects and clients include the Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, and Cadence Design System in San Jose. Mr. Steinhauer successfully negotiated a broad range of regulatory permits and approvals, including approvals for the repair of the Redwood Shores levee system with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board. Construction - Mr. Steinhauer represents clients in the negotiation and drafting of construction, architectural, and consulting agreements. His recent experience includes architectural contracts for the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco and San Francisco's Exploratorium. He also has handled construction disputes and major defect claims for both residential and commercial projects. General Real Estate - Mr. Steinhauer represents owners, contractors, and developers in a wide variety of general real estate transactions, including purchases and sales (including the sale of major wetlands and other environmentally sensitive properties), easements, licenses, covenants and agreements. He has also counseled clients in partnership disputes, foreclosures, and receivership proceedings.
