Joy Thomson Koehl has been with Betty Moore and The Village School since the beginning. She has been instrumental in the development of the curriculum and aided The Village School in growing from a nursery school with 80 students to the award winning school of 800 students that it is today.After graduating from Edinboro State College in Pennsylvania in 1962, Joy began her career as an educator at Hance Elementary School. After moving several times with her husband and three children, Joy settled in Houston. In 1973 she joined Betty at The Village School and served as a kindergarten teacher for 17 years. Joy's constant attention to detail and her contributions in the development of the excellent academic program at The Village School, led to her being selected as the Assistant Director in 1980. In 1990 Joy became the Co-Director of the school, a position she still holds today.When not devoting herself to the betterment of education at The Village School, Joy enjoys gardening and is active in her community by serving on the TAAPS school accreditation board. |
