Juan Guti�rrez is an associate in the international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery/Stanbrook LLP and a member of the Firm's European Competition group. Juan has substantial experience in competition and State aid cases and regularly represents clients' interests before the European Commission and the Spanish Competition Authorities. He also has extensive litigation experience before the European Courts in Luxembourg in cartel, State aid and staff cases. Juan has represented the European Commission before the European Courts on a number of occasions.

Representing the Spanish public television broadcaster, RTVE, before the European Court of First Instance in an action brought by two Spanish private television broadcasters, Telecinco and Antena 3, against a Commission Decision granting an exemption to the European Broadcasting Union system of acquisition of worldwide sports TV rights.
Co-representing a large Spanish electricity company in the State aid investigation initiated by the European Commission concerning the system of regulated electricity tariffs in Spain.
Co-representing a large Spanish steel company in a State aid investigation initiated by the European Commission concerning tax advantages granted for Spanish companies acquiring shares in overseas companies.
Assisted in representing and co-representing complainants and aid recipients in a number of State aid proceedings before the European Commission.
Assisted in representing a large electricity company before the Spanish Competition Court within the context of the hostile bid lodged by Gas Natural over Endesa, the largest Spanish gas and electricity companies respectively.
Co-representing one of the main parties to a major dispute concerning football TV rights in Spain.
Representing and co-representing clients in merger control cases before the Spanish Competition Authorities.
