Judith L. Toffenetti, Ph.D. is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Washington, D.C. office. She is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where her practice focuses on patent prosecution, with particular emphasis on biotechnological, chemical and pharmaceutical technologies.
Prior to joining the Firm, Judith was in private practice, where she analyzed intellectual property for validity, enforceability and infringement in a variety of disciplines, including pharmaceuticals, molecular biological products, immunological products and medical devices and products. She regularly counsels clients on various issues in the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, plant molecular biology and medical device industries, including counseling on scope, enforceability and transfer of intellectual property rights, developing intellectual property strategies and portfolios, negotiating licenses and conducting due diligence and interferences.
Judith has published papers in Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Nucleic Acids Research and Molecular Biology of the Retina .
Judith received a bachelor's degree in biology and a Ph.D. in microbial molecular biology. Upon completion of her Ph.D., Judith was a post-doctoral fellow at M.I.T., where she conducted research in the molecular biology of Drosophila myogenesis. From 1985 until 1990, Judith conducted molecular genetics research in the area of retinal degeneration at the Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
Judith is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
