Julie A. Weisman is an environmental attorney with almost 25 years of experience and is located in our Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Weisman has an extensive environmental practice, which revolves around litigation, enforcement, and hazardous waste issues, as well as the assistance of clients on environmental issues that arise in commercial transactions. In that respect, she has represented buyers, sellers, borrowers and lenders in commercial negotiations worldwide and frequently has been involved in the remediation of contamination associated with such transactions. Ms. Weisman attended Duke University as an undergraduate and obtained her law degree from Emory University in 1982. At that time, she entered the Honors Program at the US Department of Justice in the Lands and Natural Resources Division and served as a trial attorney there until 1986. She did a short stint at the National Wildlife Federation and has been in private practice even since. As a result of this background, Ms. Weisman has a broad breadth of experience in environmental matters. She also has particular areas of expertise. For example, she defends clients in enforcement actions brought by EPA, OSHA, and state regulatory agencies. She has successfully defended clients involved in enforcement matters under a variety of federal statutes, including RCRA, CERCLA, the Clean Air Act and the OSH Act. In addition, Ms. Weisman has been a litigator throughout her career and has handled all aspects of private litigation under CERCLA, including the initiation of, and the defense of, cost recovery actions. Finally, she recently has developed a special interest in exposure issues, particularly related to the presence of heavy metals, asbestos and mold.
