Justin Pierce's practice primarily involves representing employers in wrongful termination and discrimination claims before various government agencies charged with investigating and prosecuting employment claims, such as the EEOC, Arizona Civil Rights Division and Arizona Department of Labor, as well as in courts of various jurisdiction. He has experience in the Arizona Superior Court, the Arizona Court of Appeals and Arizona Supreme Court, as well as the Federal Court for the District of Arizona and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to post-complaint representation, he regularly consults with employers prior to litigation, helping to prevent employment claims and assessing potential risks for proposed employment actions.
Justin has represented Arizona school districts, including community college districts, before the EEOC and federal and state courts in wrongful termination and other discrimination and harassment claims brought by school district employees. He has also obtained summary judgment on behalf of a major community college district in a federal lawsuit brought by a former student who alleged multiple constitutional and state law violations, including due process, equal protection and First Amendment violations, as well as defamation and breach of contract.
Prior to joining Ford & Harrison, Justin was an associate at a Phoenix law firm. Earlier in his career, he was a judicial law clerk to the former Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, Charles E. Jones.
He is admitted to practice in all Arizona courts and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Justin is an elected Precinct Committeeman in Arizona's 19th Legislative District.
He is a contributor to a monthly publication on employment law, The Arizona Employment Law Letter and his published works include "Who Let the Dogs Out? : Executive Authority To Wage War Without Prior Legislative Acquiescence," 1 Geo. J.L. & Pub. Pol'y 381 (2003).
During law school, Justin served as the Executive Editor of the Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy.
