Ms. Thomas is one of two practicing attorneys in Nevada who are fellows of the American College of Bankruptcy, the national honorary society for specialists in bankruptcy and business reorganizations.
Ms. Thomas was previously a partner at the international law firm Vinson & Elkins, LLP in its main office in Houston, Texas. She was also an adjunct professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law where she founded the Conference on Valuation of Assets in Bankruptcy and served for many years on the Planning Committee for the University of Texas Annual Bankruptcy Conference. She has been a founder and member of the planning committee and a driving force in the development of VALCON the annual conference on strategic valuations sponsored by the University of Texas School of Law and the Association of Insolvency Restructuring Advisors. Currently, she is an adjunct professor at the Ansari School of Business, University of Nevada and Vice President of the Turnaround Management Association, a national organization devoted to developing excellence in helping troubled companies.
Ms. Thomas is admitted to practice in Texas (1977); the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas; the State Bar of Nevada (1999) and the U.S. District Court, District of Nevada and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits.
Ms. Thomas is a contributor and lecturer for several major treatises and conferences on Bankruptcy. She has also developed programs for federal bankruptcy judges for the Federal Judicial Center. She is co-chair of the ABA Business Bankruptcy Subcommittee on Committees in Chapter 11 and co-chair of the Educational Committee for the American College of Bankruptcy. She is in charge of the Distinguished Student Program which honors one student selected by each circuit in the United States with trips to the College annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
