Milton joins Heifer International�s Board of Directors as an At-Large director representing the Latin America/Caribbean region.
Professionally, he has recently served as Executive Director of Centro Internacional de Informaci�n Sobre Cultivos de Cobertura (CIDICCO), a major networking and information center for Central American, Mexican and Caribbean cover crops. Spending 12 years in this position after founding the program, he performed a range of tasks including compiling an extensive library on sustainable agriculture, editing The Cover Crops News and a book entitled Food and feed for Mucuna: Current Uses and the Way Forward. Proceedings of an International Workshop (Funded by the Rockefeller Foundation), and introducing participatory rural appraisal tools for the study and documentation of small farmers� agricultural and food systems.
Milton is also a skilled public speaker, having lectured at several national and international conferences and workshops in Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Santa Catarina, Brazil, FAO-Rome, as well as several locations in the United States. Establishing teaching and learning centers throughout Honduras, he has enabled several hundred male and female farmers to receive agricultural, health and motivational instruction and was also heavily involved in disaster relief assistance and rehabilitation throughout Honduras during his work with World Vision, including assisting refugees in various areas of the country.
Milton is a graduate of the Pan-American Agricultural School (Zamorano, Honduras) and Louisiana State University (B.S.), and received a Master of Professional Studies in International Agriculture and Rural Development from Cornell University. He has also taken a one year course, Leadership Strengthening for NGO Managers, sponsored by the Kellogg Foundation.
Milton lives in Honduras and is fluent in Spanish and English. He enjoys listening to a wide range of cultural music (including blues and jazz), playing aquatic sports, and studying agro tourism. |
