Norm St. Landau is a partner of the firm, and his intellectual property law practice focuses on assisting companies to brand, market and advertise consumer products, with a special interest in merchandising and the entertainment industry. He has extensive experience in working with advertising and marketing operations. Over the years, he has worked closely with clients in the course of merchandising a wide range of consumer products and in numerous industries, including the music industry, cosmetics and personal care, fashion, toys, printed goods, health care and foods and beverages.

International trademark clearance and portfolio management;
Reviewing and substantiating advertising claims to reduce the risk of competitive claims and regulatory intervention by federal agencies, such as the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency;
Structuring licenses, research and development and technology acquisition and sharing agreements; and
Intellectual property law litigation, including trademark, copyright, cyberpiracy and domain name disputes and false advertising claims.
Norm thoroughly enjoys counseling a wide range of clients from entrepreneurial businesses and individuals to major corporations. He brings a comprehensive understanding of what motivates these very different types of competitors to both his counseling and litigation practice.
Before entering private practice, Norm served as clerk to a trial judge in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Later, he gained his trial experience defending the death penalty and other serious felonies as a staff trial attorney with the New Mexico State Public Defender. In 1983, he entered private practice in Washington, D.C., focusing exclusively on intellectual property matters.
In General. Norm teaches The Law of Branding: Trademarks, Trade Dress, and Unfair Competition at the Cornell Law School, and regularly lectures on topics related to e-business, and branding and advertising clearances to trade groups and continuing legal education seminars. He is co-chair of the Technology Lawyers Consortium, an international group of technology law firms based in London. In addition, he is the past chairperson of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Committee, and is an active member of the International Trademark Association and the Copyright Society.
An active member of his community, Norm has served as an elected town council member of the Town of University Park, Maryland, and as president of the Lewisdale-University Park Boys and Girls Club. His current active hobbies find him alternating off hours on horseback or with a camera. |
