Mr. Hannawa's practice focuses on tax planning and transactional strategies for corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and individuals.
Prior to joining Dykema, Mr. Hannawa served as an attorney-advisor to the Honorable Renato Beghe of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. from June 2002 to August 2004.
Experience
Advises clients on the tax aspects of mergers and other reorganizations, liquidations, spin-offs, stock and asset acquisitions, dispositions, distributions and redemptions, and general corporate tax matters.
Advises clients on tax issues related to real estate investments, including structuring real estate transactions through various ownership vehicles.
Counsels clients on all aspects of tax incentives for community development, including New Markets Tax Credits, Federal Historic Rehabilitation Credits and Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
Formation, operation and dissolution of partnerships and limited liability companies, including the drafting or review of partnership agreements and related documents to ensure compliance with complex partnership tax rules.
Counsels mutual fund clients and regulated investment companies on tax aspects of operations, restructurings, reorganizations and liquidations.
Represents clients with respect to tax controversies.
