As General Counsel of Metagenics, Paul Konney is responsible for worldwide legal and regulatory affairs. Mr. Konney has over 15 years of experience as general counsel of Fortune 500 companies. His areas of expertise include corporate and securities law, mergers and acquisitions (both domestic and international), litigation, and FDA regulation.
Mr. Konney began his legal career at the New York City law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton. He then served as general counsel of three public companies in succession. The first was Tambrands, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and marketer of medical devices and personal care products. At Tambrands (now part of The Procter & Gamble Company), Mr. Konney was responsible for the legal department and all external relations, including public relations, investor relations, and government relations.
In 1994, Mr. Konney became general counsel of Quaker State Corporation, a leading manufacturer and marketer of motor oil and other products for the automotive aftermarket. At Quaker State, Mr. Konney supervised the legal, environmental, government affairs, internal audit, corporate safety, and risk management departments. When Quaker State merged with Pennzoil Company in 1998, Mr. Konney was appointed to head the merger integration process.
Following completion of the merger, Mr. Konney became general counsel of The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of prestige cosmetics, with over 20 brands and direct operations in over 30 countries. Mr. Konney then joined a management consulting firm in New York City, where he was the Managing Director in charge of the corporate governance and corporate development practices.
Mr. Konney received his bachelor's degree with honors from Harvard University and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an officer of the Law Review. He has served on the International Policy Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Forum for U.S.-E.U. Legal and Economic Affairs. He is currently a member of the American Bar Association's Committee of Corporate General Counsel. |
