Paul Bonavia is president of Xcel Energy�s Utilities Group. This group comprises the four operating companies of Xcel Energy: Northern States Power Company Minnesota, Northern States Power Company Wisconsin, Public Service Company of Colorado, Southwestern Public Service Company; and five major functional areas: Asset Management, Government and Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Resource Planning and Acquisition, and Transmission.
He most recently served as president of Xcel Energy�s Commercial Enterprises business unit, with responsibility for leading Xcel Energy�s core business growth strategy; planning and managing generation resources; conducting the wholesale energy business, commercial energy operations and strategic transactions; and managing public policy, regulation and government affairs.
Bonavia was previously president of the company�s Energy Markets Unit. Before the merger between Northern States Power Co. and New Century Energies (NCE) to form Xcel Energy, he was senior vice president and general counsel of NCE and president of its International business unit.
He came to NCE from the international law firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, L.L.P. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of corporate affairs for Dominion Resources, Inc., in Richmond, Va. Before joining Dominion, he was a partner in the Miami-based law firm of Steel Hector & Davis.
Bonavia was elected to the board of directors of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) in June 2007 -- the first utility member to be elected to the board. He has served as trustee of Drake University, the Colorado Symphony Association, the Virginia Literacy Foundation and the Florida Shakespeare Festival.
Bonavia attended Drake University, the University of Miami School of Law and Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program. |
