Specialty: Medical Oncology and Hematology Professional Education: Dr. Thurmes graduated with a medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed an Internal Medicine internship and residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Certifications: Dr. Thurmes holds board certification in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and in Hematology. Memberships: He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society of Hematology. Honors and Awards: Dr. Thurmes was the recipient of a scholarship from the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society, and also received the Walter and Virginia Sohre scholarship for geriatrics. In addition to serving as a member of the Medical Ethics Committee at Hennepin County Medical Center, Dr. Thurmes served an elective rotation in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala in 2001. Abstracts and Publications: Dr. Thurmes has authored several research papers reflecting his professional hematology work, and has had several manuscripts and abstracts accepted for publication in professional journals.Personal: A lifelong resident of Minnesota, Dr. Thurmes enjoys both local and international travel.
