Dr. Hamann has more than 30 years of experience in health care, including private practice, hospital and business management, private sector consulting and leadership positions for the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA). He served six years as Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) at North Memorial Health Care in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. While VPMA he chaired the committee responsible for hospital quality improvement efforts and Joint Commission survey preparations, and led numerous initiatives to change, define and improve medical staff management issues. Dr. Hamann co-founded The Minnesota Lung Center in Minneapolis, retiring from practice in 1997. In addition, Dr. Hamann has been a consultant to various health care organizations on clinical pathway development and implementation, medical staff by-laws revisions and credentialing and privileging. He also has been an intermittent consultant with the Joint Commission Resources. He has been a requested speaker on the topics of physicians' role in health care organizations, and quality improvement initiatives (CQI). Dr. Hamann has held many leadership positions with the MMA including two terms on both the Finance and Administration Committee and as Chair of the Organized Medical Staff Section; and consecutive terms as Vice President. Since 1999 he has been a member of the Respiratory Care Practitioner Advisory Council of the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his Internal and Pulmonary Medicine training through the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics. He received a B.S. in Biology from St. John's University, Collegeville, MN; a M.S. in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND; and M.S. in Administrative Medicine from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. |
