Paulo Oliveira is a member of the research staff in the Asner lab of the Department of Global Ecology at the Carnegie Institution of Washington. He holds a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and is currently pursuing a M.S. degree in Environmental Management at the University of San Francisco. His work involves the development of remote sensing and geographic information system applications for forest and land use change detection, mapping, and monitoring of the Amazon tropical forest, and the study of environmental and ecological impacts on forest dynamics, wildlife, nutrient cycling, global climate and sustainability. His current research focuses on the spatial analysis of forest disturbances in the Peruvian Amazon and the coordination of the project with Latin American environmental and research institutions. He also studies the impacts of forest degradation on wildlife in the Brazilian Amazon.
