Penny Somerville is Executive Vice-President and Senior Market Risk Officer BMO Financial Group. She was appointed to this position in November 2004 and assumed responsibility for enterprise-wide governance of trading and underwriting market risk.
Since 2000 Ms. Somerville had been Executive Vice-President and Treasurer BMO Financial Group responsible for enterprise-wide governance and overall management of funding liquidity and structural balance sheet market risk.
Ms. Somerville joined BMO in 1985. Until 1989 she held a variety of positions in the Finance Division of the bank. She was appointed to Vice-President Public Affairs in 1989 Vice-President Asset Liability Management in 1992 and Vice-President Finance Corporate and Institutional Financial Services in 1994. In 1996 she was appointed Senior Vice-President and Corporate Controller responsible for the financial performance management processes and policies of BMO Financial Group.
In 1978 Ms. Somerville graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hrs) degree. While articling with Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co. in 1979 she was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal for achieving the highest standing in Canada on the Chartered Accountancy Uniform Final Examinations. She completed her articling and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980.
Ms. Somerville has taught accounting at the University of Toronto and has been active in the training and education of chartered accountants. |
