Peter counsels firm clients in the areas of litigation, government relations and complex business transactions. He also serves as a counselor to executives and board members on a wide range of issues. Peter�s ability to take a multi-disciplinary approach to clients� problems and effectively strategize with general counsels on their pressing issues comes from his broad base of experience. He served as chief legal officer/general counsel of IMG for over 10 years, reporting directly to IMG founder Mark McCormack. During that time, Peter led IMG�s 20-plus attorney worldwide legal department, including the firm�s sale to Forstmann Little. He also practiced for 15 years at Jones Day, most recently as a litigation partner. A native of Cleveland, Peter remains committed to the local community and is involved in multiple organizations. He is Case Western Reserve University School of Law�s first Distinguished Visiting Practitioner, serving as adjunct professor in the Law, Technology and the Arts Institute, where he teaches a sports law class. He is also Harvard Law School�s Covington & Burling Distinguished Visitor, where he teaches a sports law class. In addition to serving as chair of the Diocese of Cleveland Finance Council, Peter also is past board chair of St. Ignatius High School, a board member and 2006 campaign chair of the United Way of Lake County, and chairman/secretary/treasurer of the Lake County Captains baseball team (Cleveland Indians� Class A Affiliate). He was selected as the 2007 recipient of the St. Thomas More Award by the Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Diocese of Cleveland. He is on the boards of governors at The Club at Key Center and Ave Maria School of Law. A member of Cleveland Museum of Art�s Corporate Council, Peter is an elected director of the worldwide Harvard Alumni Association and a member of its executive committee. He is also an elected director of the National Board of the Association of American Rhodes Scholars and a member of the Ohio Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee. Peter began his law career at Jones Day in 1979 and joined IMG as general counsel in 1994. He began his tenure with Calfee in 2005. |
