Peter A. Magowan has been a member of the Supervisory Board of DaimlerChrysler AG since 1998 (Chrysler Corporation: 1986).
Peter A. Magowan, born in 1942, is the President and Managing General Partner of the San Francisco Giants, one of America�s most recognized sports teams.
A 1964 Stanford University graduate he received his master degree in 1966 from Oxford University. He also completed two years of additional postgraduate work at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
Magowan spent 37 years with Safeway, a leading grocery chain, and was the CEO and Chairman of the Board from 1980 to 1993. He is a director of Caterpillar and a former director of Pacific Gas & Electric, Cox Communications and Safeway. He is a former member of the Business Roundtable and the National Chamber of Commerce, and a former trustee of Johns Hopkins University. In 1993 he was named Businessman of the Year by the San Francisco Business Times, and was presented with the Commonwealth Club�s Distinguished Citizens Award.
In 1992 he and a group of civic-minded San Franciscans saved the Giants from relocating to Tampa Bay. Then in December 1995 he unveiled a revolutionary plan to build a new 41,000-seat ballpark with no public taxpayer assistance. Since it opened for the 2000 baseball season the Giants attendance has been the second highest of the 30 Major League Baseball teams, operating at over 98 % capacity.
