Mr. Volanakis joined Corning in 1982 and was named managing director, Corning GmbH in 1992, executive vice president of CCS Holding, Inc., formerly known as Siecor Corporation, in 1995, senior vice president of advanced display products in 1997, executive vice president of Display Technologies and Life Sciences in 1999, president, Corning Technologies in 2001 and to his present position in 2005. Mr. Volanakis is a director of Dow Corning Corporation. Director since 2000. Age 50.
Peter F. Volanakis joined Corning in 1982 as a market development specialist in Optical Products. He was named product manager for Technical Ceramics in 1985, and subsequently served in various commercial positions in Environmental Products.
In 1991, Volanakis became director of Corporate Marketing.
He returned to the Environmental Products Division in 1992 as general manager-Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1995, he was named executive vice president-Siecor Corporation (a Siemens-Corning Equity Venture) in Hickory, N.C., and in October 1997 returned to Corning as senior vice president-Advanced Display Products (LCD�s). He was appointed executive vice president of the Display sector and Life Sciences division in January 1999.
In January 2001, he became president-Corning Technologies with responsibility for the company�s Information Display and Advanced Materials groups, as well as international operations and central engineering (MTE). In April 2005, Volanakis was named chief operating officer with responsibilities for all of Corning�s business operations.
Volanakis was elected to the board of directors of Corning in December, 2000. He is also on the board of directors of Dow Corning, on the board of trustees of Corning Incorporated Foundation and Corning Museum of Glass and on the board of overseers of the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College. He is also a director of Samsung Corning and Samsung Corning Precision Glass.
Volanakis holds a bachelor�s degree in economics from Dartmouth College and a master�s degree from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
