Pratap Khanwilkar joined WorldHeart with the acquisition of MedQuest Products Inc. in August 2005 and is based at the Salt Lake City, Utah location.
Mr. Khanwilkar has 21 years of medical device development and commercialization experience with 15 medical devices. Starting at the Division of Artificial Organs at the University of Utah, he has 18 years experience and 6 issued U.S. patents related to implanted blood pumps.
Mr. Khanwilkar co-founded MedQuest in 1993 and led it from a start-up company to generating more than $2.2 million in annual revenue performing contract R&D and selling functional cardiovascular simulators. This growth led to MedQuest�s recognition as Utah�s fastest growing medical device company 3 years in a row. Mr. Khanwilkar has raised more than $35 million investment for and is a co-inventor of the HeartQuest VAD, a second-generation magnetically levitated rotary blood pump.
Mr. Khanwilkar has received numerous technical and business honors, has more than 50 publications in scientific, engineering and medical journals and belongs to many professional societies. His undergraduate degree is in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and graduate degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and Bioengineering (MS, PhD) from the University of Utah. |
