Rachel Peterson loves making weather interesting, educational and fun. She joined WeatherBug in March of 2006. Before coming to Maryland, Peterson spent seven years working in television both behind the scenes and in front of the camera as a meteorologist and a reporter. She worked in production at KCBS and KTTV in Los Angeles, as a reporter and on-air meteorologist at KIVI in Boise, ID, and as an on-air meteorologist at WFMY in Greensboro, NC.
Peterson has a Master of Science in Geoscience with an emphasis in Meteorology from Mississippi State. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcasting and a minor in French from Southern Utah University where she was on the Division I college gymnastics team. She also holds an AMS (American Meteorological Society) Seal.
As an outdoor enthusiast Peterson does anything possible not to stay indoors. She has done a marathon and a Century Ride to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She did the 39 mile Avon Breast Cancer Walk in Washington, DC, and she is a tri-athlete. She loves camping, whitewater rafting and hiking and can often be found playing softball or kickball.
Along with all outdoor activities she loves the arts; plays, musicals, symphonies and art museums. Peterson has lived all over the country from the West to the South to the East; and is taking advantage of living close to DC and goes into the city as often as possible to soak up all the history. She is most proud of her philanthropic work with the March of Dimes and their annual Chef Auction which raises money for premature babies and finding a cure for premature birth.
Fun Fact: Peterson likes adventure. She has bungee jumped 15 times in Utah and California and has gone hang gliding over Eastern Maryland. |
