Rafael L. Marques is Senior Vice President and Economist at the Chicago Climate Exchange, Inc., the world's first and North America's only active, voluntary, legally binding integrated trading system to reduce emissions of all six greenhouse gases, with offset projects in North America and worldwide. Mr. Marques previously worked as a researcher at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, where his responsibilities included research and analysis of trade-related issues. Mr. Marques was also a lecturer in Economics at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Mr. Marques has assisted in the research and writing of several studies and articles relating to emissions trading. He was actively involved in all phases of the feasibility and design phases of the Chicago Climate Exchange. Mr. Marques's duties included assisting in the preparation of surveys of legislation and emissions market activity in the U.S. and abroad. He also worked in research relating to business opportunities in carbon sequestration and sustainable forestry management. Mr. Marques participated as a delegate to the 6th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC at The Hague. He has presented on the subject of market-based solutions to environmental problems at Northwestern University, the University of Illinois and in Brazil. He co-uthored articles on the Chicago Climate Exchange published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and by Britain's Royal Society. Mr. Marques is a native of Brazil and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also studied for one year at the University of Nottingham (England) under an honors program. |
