L. Ralph Piercy is, among other things, the Firm's managing shareholder, its gaming industry practice leader and a nationally and internationally recognized gaming consultant.
Mr. Piercy is a member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants in which membership is available by invitation only to the field's most highly respected practitioners. Although his practice emphasis has been the gaming (serving both operators and regulators) and hospitality industries, where he is PBTKs practice leader, Mr. Piercy provides quality audit, valuation, operational and other consulting services for publicly-held and privately-owned businesses in many different industries, for general business and tax counseling to individuals and a wide variety of family-owned businesses and as expert witness or consultant to legal counsel in a broad range of matters of litigation or other disputes.
He is often called upon to evaluate the feasibility of gaming and other hospitality ventures, design and install information systems, and act as a development advisor. For example, his diverse services have included the following:
Audits of casino hotel companies
Special internal control and operational reviews for casinos in northern and southern Nevada and in many other regulatory jurisdictions (such as New Jersey, Illinois, Iowa, Mississippi, North and South Dakota, Aruba, the Bahamas, elsewhere in the Caribbean and Native American nations)
Operations-based management consulting for casino hotels
Assessment of valuation and/or market feasibility for lodging and gaming developments and a wide variety of other businesses; and
Evaluation of financial feasibility of projects based on various financial constraints.
One study performed under Mr. Piercys direction quantified certain incremental costs of doing business in Atlantic City as compared to doing business in Nevada, and was cited as having influenced the casino regulators to modify certain regulations that restricted managements ability to maximize profits.
Mr. Piercy is the former Area Managing Partner of PBTKs predecessor national firms southwestern region and previously was partner-in-charge of its Leisure Time and Real Estate Advisory Services practice departments.
Mr. Piercy, who is licensed as a certified public accountant in several states, is a member of the Nevada, Mississippi and Iowa Societies of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Alumni Association, where he proudly served on the Deans advisory Council to the Department of Accounting and the College of Arts and Letters, and is a former liaison between the University of Nevada and the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants
