Experience
Americans With Disabilities Act
Represented scores of retail establishments, financial and educational institutions, medical clinics, restaurants and other businesses against claims of ADA violations. Have handled ADA investigations, litigation, mediation and appeals involving physical barriers, government and educational policies and workplace issues including class action litigation and matters instituted by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Have served as mediator in ADA matters both privately and by designation of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
Employment Law
Represented public and private sector employers in full range of employment law matters, including drafting of handbooks and policies, preparing contracts and severance agreements, teaching workshops, providing counsel, and acting as lead counsel in complaints initiated by public agencies and by private individuals. Have successfully defended dozens of arbitration and litigation matters involving employment law disputes.
General Litigation and Appeals
Have represented a wide variety of businesses and individuals in litigation involving intellectual property, contracts, fraud and negligence. Have AV Rating by Martindale Hubbell.
Recognized in Northern California Super Lawyers (2007, 2008 and 2009) for appellate work. Numerous published opinions in California and in the Ninth Circuit. Spent first two years out of law school as sole clerk to The Honorable Wallace P. Carson, Jr., then Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court.
Management
Have served as practice group leader for Employment and Benefits Practice Group at Downey Brand LLP, and also as firm's marketing partner.
Served as board member and president of the board of a large independent California adoption agency.
