Dick Knudsen was born in Omaha and received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Nebraska. He has practiced law in Lincoln since being admitted to the Bar in 1950 until his retirement in 1994. He has served as an arbitrator and mediator for the New York Stock Exchange. He is now retired and is serving as Of Counsel with the law firm.
Dick has been active in the Nebraska State Bar Association, serving as chairman of the House of Delegates, trustee of the Daniel J. Gross Welfare and Assistance Fund, and president of the Lincoln and Nebraska State Bar Associations and the Nebraska State Bar Foundation. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and a past member of its Sections of Insurance, Negligence, Compensation Law and Trial Practice.
Dick's area of special interest was trial work in personal injury and tort law. In 1970, he was selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is also a member of the International Association of Insurance Counsel, National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, Defense Counsel Association of Nebraska, American Judicature Society and American Law Institute. Dick has also served on the Nebraska Supreme Court Committee on Civil Procedure, Nebraska State Bar Commission, the Judicial Nominating Commission and as Interim Executive Director of the Nebraska State Bar Association. He is a past president of the Barristers Club.
In addition to his involvement with the legal profession, Dick has been active in civic affairs. He is past chairman of the Lincoln Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and a trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.
Dick and his wife Sally, now deceased, have three children and ten grandchildren.
