Mr. Franco joined the Board of Directors of Salix in May 2000 with over 32 years of pharmaceutical executive and sales and marketing experience. He is the President and a director of Dara BioSciences, Inc. Mr. Franco is a director of the Research Triangle Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). Mr. Franco has served as Chairman and a founder of LipoScience, Inc. (spectroscopic analysis for clinical diagnostics) since November 1997. From April 1996 to October 1997, he was President of the Richards Group, Ltd. (health care consulting). From April 1994 to April 1996, Mr. Franco served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Trimeris, Inc., a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company. Previously, Mr. Franco served as a corporate officer and a member of the Executive Committee of Glaxo Inc., first as Vice President and General Manager of Glaxo Dermatology and then as Vice President and General Manager of the Cerenex Division. Mr. Franco's other positions with Glaxo included Vice President of Commercial Development and Vice President of Marketing. Prior to joining Glaxo, Mr. Franco was with Eli Lilly and Company for 16 years. Mr. Franco is a director of TriPath Imaging, Inc., a publicly traded company. He received his pharmacy degree from St. John's University and attended Long Island University for his graduate work in pharmaceutical marketing and management. |
