Mr. Sherwood, who is counsel to the firm, is a graduate of Colgate University, Albany Law School and New York University Graduate School of Business Administration (M.S. in Accounting). Prior to practicing law he was associated with the accounting firm of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in New York City. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1987 and the New York State Bar in 1988.
Mr. Sherwood's practice is concentrated in the probate, estate planning, elder law, real property, corporate and tax areas. He has substantial experience handling a variety of complex probate, estate planning and tax matters, as well as planning for the disabled and elderly and advising both individual and corporate clients on tax matters, including audits, appeals and litigation before the Internal Revenue Service and other taxing authorities. He has considerable experience representing lenders and individuals in a variety of real property matters. Mr. Sherwood also is experienced in commercial and real property tax assessment matters, condemnation and eviction proceedings.
Mr. Sherwood is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York and currently serves on the Estate, Health, Insurance and Personal Planning Committee of the Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
Mr. Sherwood is a member of the Albany County and New York State Bar Associations (Member, Sections on Trusts and Estates, Elder Law, Real Property and Taxation), the Massachusetts Bar Association (Member, Section on Taxation), the District of Columbia and American Bar Associations (Member, Sections on Real Property, Probate and Trust and Taxation).
Mr. Sherwood is Chairman of the Albany County Ethics Commission, and is the Town Attorney for the Town of Guilderland.
Mr. Sherwood also is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York and the United States Tax Court. |
