Richard L. Walton has been VDOT�s Chief of Policy and the Environment since December 2005. He is responsible for managing the agency�s environmental program, long-range transportation planning and legislative and regulatory affairs.
Earlier, he was a senior assistant attorney general in Virginia�s Office of the Attorney General, where he had led the transportation team for nearly 20 years. Before that he worked as an assistant attorney general representing VDOT and as a special assistant attorney general assigned to VDOT�s Fredericksburg District. He received the distinguished Service Award and the Meritorious Service Award for his work in the Attorney General�s Office.
