Richard D. Coats is an attorney with the Project Finance Group of the Los Angeles office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy LLP, where his practice is focused on the real estate aspects of large energy projects. Mr. Coats' background includes the representation of major real estate developers and landowners of office, retail and resort properties.
In recent years, Mr. Coats has represented developers, lenders and equity investors in connection with biomass, geothermal, solar and wind energy projects. His experience in wind energy projects includes projects ranging in size from 50 to 400 MW located in the Southwest, Midwest, Atlantic and Pacific regions of the Unites States. He has extensive experience in handling real estate issues presented by single and multi-phased wind energy projects while negotiating and drafting land acquisition agreements, title policies, purchase agreements, mortgages, and build-out agreements. His experience covers the methods needed to properly secure wind and solar energy development rights from private landowners, state and federal governmental entities, including the Bureau of Land Management and Native American tribes.
Mr. Coats graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and has earned law degrees from University of the Pacific (JD) and New York University (LL.M). |
