Dr. Maas is a professor of Environmental Science at the University of North Carolina-Asheville where he also founded and co-Directs the Environmental Quality Institute. The EQI is internationally renown as an independent public university environmental research center providing nonprofit groups, corporations, and government agencies with objective scientific research on a wide range of environmental and consumer product safety issues.
Best known as one of the United States leading authorities on drinking water and water pollution control technologies, Dr. Maas has a Bachelors in Chemistry from Bucknell University, an M.S. in Chemistry from Western Carolina University, A Masters of Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina, and a Ph.D in Environmental Chemistry, also from UNC.
Through the EQI and as a consultant, Dr. Maas has assisted dozens of private companies in developing environmentally friendly or non-toxic products. He is the author of over 200 original research publications and is a highly sought-after environmental authority by both the private and non-profit sectors. He is frequently contacted by national print, audio, and television media as an expert on water quality, sustainable energy technologies, and consumer product chemical exposure issues. He appears frequently on major network television, National Public Radio, and print media including Popular Science, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, Redbook, The Wall Street Journal as well as dozens of other well-known health, parenting, business, and consumer magazines.
