Ridwan Shabsigh, MD, is Associate Professor of Urology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York and attending physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, he is the Director of the New York Center for Human Sexuality. Dr. Shabsigh received his medical degree from Damascus University Medical School in Damascus, Syria. He completed a residency and fellowship in urology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Dr. Shabsigh has focused his research on the treatment of male and female sexual dysfunctions. He has also participated in numerous trials on agents used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), premature ejaculation, hypogonadism and female sexual dysfunction, and he currently serves as an investigator for efficacy and safety trials on a variety of new medications and devices. A frequent contributor to the medical press, Dr. Shabsigh has authored many original papers and abstracts in addition to review articles, book chapters, and editorials. Most recently, he published a comprehensive patient education book on ED: Back to Great Sex: Overcome ED and Reclaim Lost Intimacy. Dr. Shabsigh is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology, and is an active member of several organizations, including the American Urological Association, the International Society for Sexual and Impotence Research, and the Society for Basic Urologic Research. He is also a member of the Sexual Health Council of the American Foundation of Urologic Disease. Among his editorial responsibilities, Dr. Shabsigh serves as a reviewer of the Journal of Urology and Urology. Awards he has received include the John K. Lattimer Award for Excellence in Clinical Instruction and the American Foundation of Urologic Disease new investigator scholarship. |
