Mr. Robert Carnahan is a Senior Managing Engineer in Exponent�s Mechanical Engineering and Materials/Metallurgy practices. He specializes in engineering failure analysis by combining metallurgical engineering mechanical engineering and materials science. Mr. Carnahan is frequently called upon to perform failure analysis of components devices and equipment made from metals plastics glass and ceramics. Mr. Carnahan has extensive experience in analyzing equipment failures in the transportation power generation and petrochemical industries. He has also analyzed a wide variety of piping and plumbing product failures. In addition Mr. Carnahan performs investigations of corrosion damage and stress corrosion cracking including stress corrosion cracking of nuclear power plant components. His skills and experience include optical and scanning electron microscopy metallography mechanical testing and stress analysis. Mr. Carnahan also has experience in the areas of high temperature materials and coatings analysis of friction and wear problems and effects of irradiation on material properties. Prior to joining Exponent Mr. Carnahan was employed in both the nuclear and aerospace divisions of the General Electric Company. Mr. Carnahan is a registered professional mechanical engineer in the state of California. |
