Robert Colton is a Shareholder in the firm's Los Angeles office and practices in the Bank and Finance Group. He is a former member of the Firm's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He is also the former Chair of the Firm's Bank and Finance Group. Mr. Colton focuses his practice on financing transactions involving a wide variety of businesses, including diversified manufacturers, agricultural companies, sports teams, service entities, retailers and computer hardware and software companies. He is the former general counsel of The Foothill Group, Inc., a public asset based lending company which is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Company.
Mr. Colton has extensive experience in secured and unsecured lending, acquisition financing, debt purchase transactions and problem loan restructuring for financial institutions. He also handles multiborrower, multistate transactions and financings of companies with foreign operations.
Mr. Colton received his B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1965 and his J.D. from the University of California School of Law at Los Angeles in 1968.
Mr. Colton is a member of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, where he served as President and member of its Board of Regents. He is a founding member of the American Bar Association's Commercial Financial Services Committee, and a former Chairman of its Acquisition Financing Subcommittee. He is also a former member of the Executive Committee's Business Law Section of the California State Bar and former Chairman of the Education Committee of that section.
