Robert C. Moellering, Jr., M.D. is the Herman Ludwig Blumgart Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Physician-in-Chief and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Trained as an infectious disease specialist, Dr. Moellering has been actively involved in laboratory research for the past 30 years and presently serves as chairman of one of the major academic departments of medicine at Harvard Medical School. As reported in over 350 publications in scientific journals, Dr. Moellering?s work includes numerous studies of the mechanism of action and mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobial agents. Most recently, Dr. Moellering and his colleagues have been investigating the mechanisms of resistance to vancomycin and oxazolidinones in Staphylococcus aureus and are studying the basis for pathogenesis in enterococci and staphylococci. He received his M.D. degree cum laude from Harvard Medical School and completed his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in infectious disease prior to joining the faculty of Harvard Medical School. A recognized expert in his field, Dr. Moellering is a member of several professional organizations, including the Infectious Disease Society of America and the American Academy of Microbiology. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, and currently serves as Editor of both Infectious Disease Clinics of North America and European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. |
