Mr. Friese is one of the founding partners of the Firm. He specializes in business litigation, including securities, real estate, unfair competition, officer and director liability, fraud, and breach of contract. He has extensive experience in representing both claimants and defendants in investment-related disputes, and has handled successfully a great variety of tort and contract-based disputes for a wide range of companies and individuals.
Having founded or co-founded three operating companies in addition to our Firm, Mr. Friese brings a unique combination of business understanding to his skills as a litigator. This has served well in dealing with clients, as well as giving an advantage in comprehending and dealing with the respective positions of the parties to litigation.
His clients include major investment advisers, banks, brokerage firms, a great variety of companies, and many executives of these entities.
Mr. Friese was again named as one of The Best Lawyers in America for 2007 by that prestigious publication in the areas of commercial litigation and securities law.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Friese has extensive experience in both federal and state courts, and has arbitrated before the New York Stock Exchange, Pacific Exchange, National Association of Securities Dealers, Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, and American Arbitration Association. He has served as Chair of the Business Litigation Committee and the State Court Civil Litigation Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco, and as a Board member of that Association. He is a member of the Securities Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association, and co-chair of the SEC Enforcement Subcommittee of that committee of the American Bar Association�s Litigation Section. Mr. Friese is also coordinator of a multi-year study of the increasing criminalization of securities law. He has served on the Board of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Having been with the Securities and Exchange Commission prior to co-founding our Firm, Mr. Friese serves as President of the Association of SEC Alumni. He has taught at the SEC�s in-house training session in Washington, D.C., and has served as claims administrator at the request of that agency. He also co-chairs the Firm�s Securities Enforcement Defense Group, one of the few such groups in the West specializing in such regulatory agency defense work.
EDUCATION
Mr. Friese received an A.B. degree from Stanford University in 1964 and a J.D. from Northwestern University in 1970. He has also studied at the Graduate Institute for International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and the School of Law of Freie Universitaet in Berlin, Germany. |
