Robert Gilbert is an experienced and accomplished trial lawyer who has successfully represented several Fortune 100 and multinational corporations. He primarily litigates intellectual property disputes such as patent infringement, trademark infringement, technology licensing, trade secret, and copyright infringement, including international arbitrations of such matters. Bob has won injunctions in federal courts in seven states on behalf of manufacturers, retailers, and a prominent national association. One such trademark victory opened a national market for a retail chain. On behalf of computer software companies, he has resolved on very favorable terms vigorously contested lawsuits and arbitrations concerning copyright infringement and licensing issues.
Bob's experience in patent litigation includes representing a major manufacturer in several cases where he obtained both injunctive and monetary relief against other well-known manufacturers. He has successfully tried patent cases concerning engraving equipment and electrical equipment and has been the lead counsel at Markman hearings involving a variety of technologies including watches and timepieces, software networks, and three-dimensional imaging technology.
He also has broad experience in commercial litigation, including substantial cases involving product liability, antitrust, corporate dissolution, and complex contractual disputes.
Bob is an active and innovative practitioner of alternative dispute resolution. For example, he recently served for two years as vice chair of the Arbitration and Mediation Committee of the national Intellectual Property Owners Association.
He is a member of the litigation sections of the New York Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, and has served on the national executive committee of the Yale Law School Association.
