Dr. Robert Caligiuri is Group Vice President of Exponent. Dr. Caligiuri has responsibility for several practices at Exponent including Materials/Metallurgy Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering and Thermal Sciences. With a background in both materials science and mechanical engineering Dr. Caligiuri specializes in failure analysis of gas and oil piping and chemical process equipment materials investigation failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) powder metallurgy industrial engineering and risk assessment of mechanical systems industrial safety assessment and intellectual property issues. His research examines the relationship between material microstructure and mechanical behavior. It includes modeling the response of mechanical systems to static and dynamic loading and understanding the mechanisms of mechanical fatigue and environmentally assisted cracking in materials such as turbine disk steels stainless steels steam generator tubing alloys pressure vessel steels copper-nickel alloys and recovery boiler tubing materials.
Prior to joining Exponent Dr. Caligiuri held several research and academic positions at Stanford University Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Tsukuba Research Center Japan. Most recently he served as Program Manager and Materials Scientist for SRI International. |
