Robert K. (Bob) Long, Sr., a Bastrop resident, is a minister, rancher, and a director of the First National Bank of Bastrop. He has been an officer in the Bastrop Ministerial Alliance for more than 20 years. He is a chaplain with the Bastrop Police Department, and was selected chaplain of the year in 2000. He is a founding member of the Tributary League, which supports the Colorado River Foundation. Long is involved in various civic activities such as the County Character Education Committee, the Houston Toad Task Force and the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, and was selected as Citizen of the Year in 1994. After earning a bachelor's degree in economics from Texas A&M University, he served as an officer in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of major. He is a decorated veteran of Viet Nam. Long has been involved in Republican Party politics since 1980. He was county party chairman for 20 years, served two terms as state Republican executive committeeman for the 18th Senatorial District, and is presently chaplain of the Republican Party of Texas. Gov. Rick Perry appointed him to the LCRA Board in 2001 for a term that expires in 2007. |
