Robert L. Beeten from Monument, CO developed and initiated the selection process for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) volunteer athletic trainer/physician program in 1977. Beeten served as the USOC Medical Director between 1976 and 2000, and acted as the head athletic trainer and medical coordinator during six different Olympics (three Summer Games & three Winter Games) from 1968 to 1984. His last 6 years of employment (1994-2000) were as the Director of Sports Medicine for the United States Olympic Committee.
Some of his special honors include: American Optometric Association, Apollo Award (distinguished service in the field of vision), 1987, and he was elected 10 times as the Big Sky Coach of the Year. The American Dental Association and American Optometry Association have also honored Beeten for developing programs in athletic health care. |
