Mr. Hails manages patent enforcement investigations for several Fortune 500 clients to evaluate risks or opportunities presented by the patents. Although many investigations involve a discrete, identifiable number of patents, others can be quite broad. For example, review of a client's patent portfolio for counter-assertion can involve a search among thousands of candidate patents. Mr. Hails has developed a layered review program to ensure our efforts are thorough but cost-effective for our clients.
Mr. Hails represents clients in all phases of patent prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He advises clients regarding development of strategic patent filing programs designed to identify and protect technologies that provide competitive advantage in the marketplace. For our larger corporate clients, Mr. Hails manages teams of prosecuting attorneys as they represent our clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He drafts patent applications and represents clients to secure patent rights for inventions. Mr. Hails lectures within the firm on patent prosecution practice and procedure. He has presented at client seminars regarding portfolio development.
