Mr. Harris has a diverse litigation practice, with a particular emphasis on bankruptcy and creditor's rights litigation. He specializes in all aspects of the bankruptcy process, including plan confirmation hearings, valuation proceedings and fraudulent transfer and preference litigation.
Mr. Harris also has extensive experience in representing media clients in First Amendment and access-related matters, including successfully unsealing government records and pleadings in various civil and criminal cases. He has litigated in federal, state and bankruptcy court.
Representative Matters
o Represented First Lien Noteholders in expedited litigation against Calpine Corporation, resulting in a recovery of $400 million.
o Successfully represented media clients in obtaining public filing of discovery, release of impounded documents and opposing gag orders in connection with highly publicized scandal involving allegations of sexual abuse by members of the clergy.
o Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Chapter 11 cases of Global Crossing Ltd. and related entities, CTC Communications Group, and boxer Mike Tyson.
o Successfully argued on behalf of client in obtaining relief from stay to seek reimbursement for fees and expenses from directors and officers liability insurance in connection with a Chapter 7 adversary proceeding.
o Represented the Equity Committee in the Mirant Corporation bankruptcy case, in which the Brown Rudnick team achieved a value in excess of $1 billion for the benefit of equity holders.
o Obtained copyright protection for the widely-disseminated photograph depicting the famous Bobby Orr in the goal that won the Stanley Cup in 1972.
