Robert S. Langer, Sc.D., is the Kenneth Germeshausen Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a co-founder of Acusphere. He is the only person in the world who is an active, elected member of all three of the U.S. National Academies--the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering. He is also Chairman of the Science Board at the FDA, the FDA's highest level scientific advisory board. In 1996, he received the Gairdner Foundation Award, one of the most prestigious awards in medical science. This award has only been in existence since 1957, and 54 of its recipients have subsequently won the Nobel Prize. |
