Robert S. Langer,ScD, an Institute Professor at MIT, is the winner of numerous awards including the Gairdner Foundation International Award, the holder of over 500 patents, and the author of more than 850 scholarly papers. He was described by Forbes Magazine as one of the 25 most important individuals in biotechnology in the world. He received the Lemelson-MIT prize, for being "one of history's most prolific inventors in medicine", and is one of a very few individuals who are members of all three of the National Academy of Science, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Institute of Medicine.
