Mr. Barnett concentrates his practice in the representation of individuals and owners of family businesses, with an emphasis on business and estate planning, including ownership succession planning. He is an Ohio State Bar Association Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, a Fellow of The American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, has been recognized as one of the "Best Lawyers in America", an "Ohio Super Lawyer" and named by Business First as one of "Columbus' Top Lawyers." He received his law degree cum laude in 1975 from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
Mr. Barnett is the Managing Partner of the law firm and the former Chair of the firm's Family Wealth Planning Group.
Mr. Barnett currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section of the Ohio State Bar Association. He is a past Chair and current member of the following Columbus Bar Association Committees: Probate Court; Taxation; Estate and Gift Tax; Columbus Tax Conference; and Professional Ethics (member only). He is a frequent speaker at professional, as well as community, seminars on the subjects of business succession, estate and retirement planning.
Mr. Barnett currently serves as the President of the Alumni Corporation of the Ohio State Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Goodwill Rehabilitation Center and the Executive Committee of the Development Board of Children's Hospital of Columbus.
