Bob Gruhl has over 30 years of financial, operational, and consulting experience in the insurance and financial service industry, with extensive experience providing strategic, operational and financial advisory services to corporations in transition: start-ups, companies positioning themselves for the next growth stage, companies re-focusing their business strategies, and companies in need of an exit strategy.
Bob was most recently jointly responsible for the Insurance M&A practice of Tillinghast-Towers Perrin, a global actuarial and management consulting firm serving financial services companies and other organizations.
Previously he had enjoyed a 27 year career with the Liberty Mutual Group ("Liberty"), a Fortune 500 global insurance and financial services organization. He was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1987 to 1997, responsible for all finance and treasury operations. His experience includes Liberty's diversification into financial services and international insurance through extensive merger and acquisition activity; the initiation and management of alternative property/casualty risk programs: the development of business planning processes for decentralized profit centers, and of financial and capital planning models; management of relationships with Wall Street and rating agencies; the raising of external capital in support of growth and diversification; and the creation of a downstream insurance holding company and a publicly-traded financial services company. He also created a highly successful management development program. The current leaders of a number of Liberty's major business units are graduates of this program.
Gruhl also held a number of other financial and operational positions including Executive Director of International Operations, Treasurer, and Manager in Liberty's Corporate Research Department.
He has been a member of the Financial Executives Institute and Treasury Clubs in Boston, and has served on numerous property-casualty insurance and financial service industry advisory committees. He has also served as Treasurer of the Corinthian Yacht Club.
Mr. Gruhl received a Bachelor of Engineering (Operations Research) and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Michigan. |
