Dr. Ross has B.S. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering. He rose to Associate Professor at the University of Akron and Director of The Guggenheim Institute Akron Ohio. Dr. Ross has held the position of Manager of Aeromechanical Research and Development at the Goodyear Aerospace Corporation Akron Ohio and is now President of Environmental Structures Inc. Cleveland Ohio and Concept Development Institute Inc. Hudson Ohio a non-profit "think tank".
Dr. Ross and his associates have been involved in over 100 firsts in a wide variety of fields from drilling oil under the Gulf of Mexico to placing a payload on a planet. A few of these are: the personal self rescue inflatable airplane the Inflatoplane; the positive parachute the Ballute; the jet engine thrust reverser; the all mechanical automatic truck transmission with no fluid coupling; the fully stable air cushion vehicle that could be driven by a truck driver; the Vee-Balloon logging system that did not require roads; the design of early helicopter rotors jet engine silencers submarine and smart bomb controls etc. His latest efforts are in the field of giant pressure-stabilized cable structures new materials and manufacturing methods.
Dr. Ross is a firm believer in combining technologies to make large advances quickly that result in simple proven reliable systems. Dr. Ross is an active private pilot who holds single multiple engine and instrument ratings. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Lighter than Air Society and has held many official positions in technical societies.
