J. Rock Tonkel Jr. is President and Chief Operating Officer of FBR Group and a member of the office of the Chief Executive. He has served as a director of the company since March 1997.
Since joining FBR in 1994 Mr. Tonkel has spearheaded the development of FBR�s leadership position in the capital markets for financial companies including banks thrifts mortgage companies specialty finance companies and insurance companies. During that time FBR has grown from an investment banking boutique to a top 10 national investment bank. Mr. Tonkel�s background emphasizes both capital raising and mergers transactions.
Prior to joining FBR Mr. Tonkel served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) the regulatory agency for the savings and loan industry. At the OTS Mr. Tonkel oversaw the restructuring of many of the nation�s largest troubled thrifts and savings banks including Glendale Federal Bank California Federal Bank and Dime Savings Bank of New York. He was involved in major recapitalizations which raised more than $2.5 billion in equity for institutions with combined total assets of more than $70 billion.
Prior to OTS Mr. Tonkel was an associate with Prudential Securities and an associate with Keefe Bruyette & Woods Inc. in New York City.
Mr. Tonkel received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Amherst College. |
